We have decided not to do a music video for Bryan Adams - Summer of 69'. We have come to this decision as we felt that we did not get enough footage over the Summer as we found it difficult to all meet up and when we did we had to film a lot in a short space of time. Due to this, we felt that what we did film was not up to A2 standard. However, myself and Gemma felt that what we did have suitable footage and would be able to carry on the project. Therefore, it was decided that Sian and Megan who did not agree that we had enough footage would form their own group together and myself and Gemma would carry on with the music video for the Summer of 69' as partners. However, after a lot of deliberation we decided it would be best to change our choice of song as it is turning in to the winter months and therefore Summer conditions would not be available to us making it difficult to film Summer scenes creating a barrier for our level of achievement.
Research in to a New Song Choice
Myself and my new partner Gemma discussed what sort of path we wanted to go down in terms of a new song choice. We discussed what footage we already had available to us which we filmed for the Summer of 69' and whether we would be able to use it or not in the new song we choose. Therefore, we discussed what type of song we wanted to do. We decided that we wanted to choose a song which had a feeling of loss; a loss of a relationship, good times, memories, the loss of the happy feeling of Summer....as we felt we could incorporate the footage we had already by filming some new footage contrasting our Summer scenes, that represented sadness and loss. We also came to this decision as we found it difficult to film for the Summer of 69` video as we needed to film a band and found it difficult to get everyone together. Therefore, we have decided we want to do a soloist song, preferably a female artist as it will be easier to film and access.
Certain that we wanted to do a song of this theme (sadness and loss etc) we then started to talk about songs which we thought presented this theme and started to research them on YouTube. After doing so, we managed to narrow our song choice down to 3 songs. These were:
- Gwen Stefani - Cool
- Avril Lavigne - My Happy Ending
- Pink - Who Knew
We then printed off the lyrics for each song and set ourselves the task of coming up with ideas/shots for each song in relation to the lyrics. We felt by doing this seperately and then feedback to each other what ideas we had come up with would be best as it would enable us to have access to more ideas as we would not be influencing each others ideas or questioning them. Through doing this we came to a decision about our final song choice. We decided upon Avril Lavigne`s My Happy Ending. This was due to the fact that when we feback to each other the ideas we had for each song the Pink and Gwen Stefani lyric sheets were blank or had very little on them in comparison to our Avril lyric sheets which were bursting with ideas - obviously indicating that Avril Lavigne was the best song to proceed with.
