FILMING: Avril Lavigne - My Happy Ending

Thursday 13th October - Today after school we did filming for the puppet scene in the Drama Studio. Unfortunately at last minute Tom Manson the person who is playing our boyfriend figure had to rush off to a family emergency. However, we used our time wisely and decided to film Kate Fenwick - our artist/girlfriend figure/puppet and we will rearrange a time where we can film Tom controlling her. The idea to film in the Drama Studio due to the theatre lighting worked very well. We used one light beaming down on Kate and the rest of the room was in darkness. This helped to highlight the puppet strings controlling her and also created atmospheric shadows. By using the lighting in such a way we feel we have created a mood which expresses sadness which correlates with the mood of the shot as Kate is looking very morbid and upset. We believe this fits the conventions of our genre because in many pop-rock/pop-punk videos the lighting amplifies the mood trying to be expressed.

Below are photographs we took while filming which show our use of lighting and Kate's appearance as a puppet. We also took some of these images taking in to consideration the ancillary task.

Due to Health &Safety this is a picture of media technian Simon Corby helping us positioning the lighting we wanted.

Making sure Kate is comfortable with the lighting and the strings attached to her.

Here are the props we used which we will need to use again when we rearrange a filming date to film Tom.
