Nickelback - Photographs
Nickelback as a band have very lyrical songs and this is the reason we decided to research in to them as we thought their lyrics would provide us with a good narrative form/structure. We decided against this song as we felt it wasn't the correct genre we wanted to explore and we thought a more upbeat song would provide us with more opportunities.
Enrique Iglesias - Escape
We then moved on to look at Enrique Iglesias because his music is still lyrical but is a bit more upbeat. We liked the idea of close ups of the band and the instruments they are playing, as this still gives the video a narrative form but helps bring the audience's attention back to the reason for the video, the music/the band/singer.Although we felt this song was more upbeat than Nickelback's we felt the pace of the song was still too slow.
Genesis - I Can't Dance
As many 80s songs are known to be upbeat we then decided to looked in to this time period of music. We particularly liked this video from Genesis as it is very comical, humorous, this can be seen at 0:56/57 seconds with the lizard. We liked this song but couldn't really think of any ideas towards it apart from getting teachers to walk in funny positions across the screen but then we thought this was very similar to what is first seen in the original video at 1:06.
The Buggles - Video Killed The Radio Star
We then looked at The Buggles - Video Killed The Radio Star as this is a very well known 80s song and is very upbeat. The high pitch "woah w ohs" in the background we could make a comical aspect of the music video, for example, dressing a male in female clothing who would then be the singer of that phrase which would then bring out the comical side and extravagant aspect of the costumes used in the original video. We decided against this video as we felt it was too well known and we wouldn't be able to recreate it to a standard which every age group would be able to relate to.
Ke$ha ft 3OH!3 - Blah Blah Blah
We then decided to look in to more modern artists such as Ke$ha's music video as she is known for being very comical when trying to engage the audience in her work. We liked some aspects of the video such as Ke$ha`s quirky facial expressions and the unique lighting used as a back drop in some of her shots. However, in the end we decided against this song as we felt the lyrics "blah blah blah" were too repetitive and if we struggle to come up with new/a variety of ideas for our video then there may be a risk of it becoming boring for the audience.
Katy Perry - Last Friday Night
Keeping on the theme of modern, comical songs, we then looked at Katy Perry's latest song "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F)". We all liked the comical elements of the video such as a geeky Katy Perry getting overwhelmed by the presence of a hunky guy and then to her disbelief ending up in bed with him. There are modern ideas which people our age will find comical due to teenage experiences they can relate to such as feeling like the ugly duckling, the transformations we go through in our teenage years and doing the stereotypical things associated with teenagers like going wild at parties/on a Friday night. Connotations which are made clear in this video. However, we have decided against this song as we feel it is too recent and people know it too well and the video associated with it.
